Nature of the Project
The community center is intended to serve as a modern community space, providing residents of Nærheden with a natural gathering place for activities such as communal dining, knitting clubs, wine tastings, movie nights, lectures, and much more.
The building’s architecture draws inspiration from the area’s cultural heritage and history. It is therefore designed as two Viking halls joined together and offset from one another. The building’s primary structural elements consist of glued-laminated timber frames and CLT panels.
The building is designed in two sections with two roof pitches, where the main common areas feature sloped ceilings that rise to the ridge. The facades and terrace are constructed of wood. The facade features horizontal board siding, interrupted by vertical grooves that run the full length of the eave rafters and the roof surface. Windows are installed along the building’s long sides to provide views and also serve as natural ventilation.
'The community center was completed and handed over in 2021.
