Wood Structures

The Wood Structures department includes several certified structural engineers, giving us the capacity to tackle even the most challenging projects. We have served as consultants on some of the country’s largest and most complex timber structures, where stringent requirements for structural engineering, fire safety, and moisture control go hand in hand with architectural ambitions.

Our passion for sustainable construction has led to the establishment of a center of expertise for timber construction, where we gather and develop our accumulated knowledge and experience. The center of expertise brings significant experience, pragmatism, insight, and passion—as well as a team of select engineers—to the projects.

At the same time, our specialists work closely with the other engineering disciplines in-house, where we also have experts in timber construction in general. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that we always find the most robust, realistic, and value-creating solution—technically, economically, and environmentally.

Why build with wood?

Wood is one of the most climate-friendly construction materials available to us. It stores CO2 throughout its entire lifespan and can, in many cases, replace materials with a higher carbon footprint, such as concrete and steel. As a continuous and renewable resource, wood is an obvious choice when seeking to reduce environmental impact and create buildings with a lower carbon footprint. At the same time, wood places high demands on a project’s fire and moisture strategies, and this is precisely where our specialists come into play. With extensive experience in risk assessment, sizing, and design, we ensure that timber structures function safely and stably throughout the building’s entire lifespan.

All Types of Wooden Structures

Our specialists handle all types of timber structures, from solid CLT elements and advanced glued-laminated timber structures to complex hybrid solutions that combine wood with other materials. Whether the project involves residential, institutional, commercial, or custom-designed structures, we tailor the solution to the project’s architecture, function, and sustainability goals. Our experience is extensive, and we handle both simple and highly technically demanding wood projects.

Hybrid Structures

Due to span requirements, fire codes, or functional considerations, some structures cannot be built entirely of wood. This is where our expertise in hybrid construction comes into play. By combining wood with materials such as concrete or steel, we can optimize the building’s overall sustainability while ensuring the necessary structural properties. Our approach is to leverage the qualities of wood where it provides the greatest value and to supplement it with other materials only where necessary. The result is robust, resource-efficient structures with a significantly lower carbon footprint.

ABCarpentry

We design bio-based structural elements and send them directly to robotic production

ABCarpentry is an in-house developed digital tool for the design and production of bio-based structural elements. It combines traditional wood construction with automation and robotic production.

The tool enables the creation of structural elements made from biogenic materials that can be sent directly to robotic production.

It automatically generates frame elements and detailed connection points, creating a building geometry where all structural elements are ready for production without any additional manual steps.
