ABConcept—Sustainable Structural Optimization

Over the past few years, ABC has invested heavily in digital expertise within the field of structural engineering. We have worked on a wide range of projects using, among other things, our own digital tool, ABConcept, which has demonstrated enormous potential for structural optimization in the early phases. In this presentation, you’ll learn, among other things, how innovative digital solutions can help you make the right choices early in the decision-making process.

As requirements increase and CO2 limits are tightened, there is a growing need for continuous insight into a project’s climate performance. Access to data and insights must be made available to all parties in the construction industry so that sustainable design and material choices become an integral part of the construction project.

Here, innovative digital solutions—such as ABConcept—can help ensure that the right choices are made early in the decision-making process. With validated data, project stakeholders can make well-informed decisions early in the construction project phase.

In this post, we aim to share insights about:

  • ABConcept, as a tool for the early design phase of construction projects, helps architects and contractors estimate the total CO2 footprint of load-bearing structures
  • ABConcept, which incorporates structural engineering expertise and enables the automation of manual work procedures to explore a wider range of solutions
  • ABConcept, which quantifies design choices, helping to steer the structural engineering project in a more sustainable direction

What value do you get from this?

  • Users will gain a better understanding of how to estimate the carbon footprint in early design phases and thus make more sustainable decisions in the construction project
  • ABConcept will help architects and contractors reduce their projects’ environmental impact and save costs in the long term
  • By using ABConcept, recipients can achieve a more efficient and automated workflow and deliver better results in less time

In addition to ABConcept, this post will also take a broader look at general knowledge regarding Computational Design and programming. Therefore, the post will also provide insights into the following:

Computational Design and its contribution to engineering projects Computational Design is a forward-looking approach to the design process that uses advanced computer programming techniques and algorithms to generate complex and optimized design solutions. In construction projects, Computational Design can play a crucial role in achieving better results in less time and with greater accuracy, including, for example, by:

  • Generating complex geometries
  • Structural analysis and optimization
  • Automation of drafting and documentation processes
