Nature of the project
The Halgård Daycare Center is a “pilot project” for Holstebro Municipality focused on sustainable construction.
The facility is an integrated nursery and preschool covering 1,700 m², located between the new residential areas of Halgård Enge to the south and east, Halgård School to the west, and a protected watercourse to the north.
As the project owner, Holstebro Municipality has tightened the CO₂ consumption requirements to 9 kg CO₂ per m² per year, which is significantly lower than the current building code requirement for maximum CO₂ consumption of 12 kg CO₂ per m² peryear.
The architectural firm Frost Larsen is responsible for the building’s design, developed in close dialogue and collaboration with ABC.
The building’s layout is designed to accommodate operations and daily life, with a focus on ensuring a sustainable environment. ABC has supplemented the architect’s work with requirements for structural elements and systems aimed at reducing the carbon footprint. Additionally, analyses of energy, daylight, and fire safety have been incorporated to ensure a cohesive project from the very start of the design competition.
The building’s structures feature traditional foundations and a ground floor slab, while the upper sections consist of timber-frame and rafter structures. Utility systems are routed through main conduits and housed in the building’s unused attic space. The utility systems have been fully designed for tendering by trade.
The work was carried out in close collaboration with the architect and the client throughout the project phases, including as an active participant in the competition phase, through the preliminary design, project proposal, regulatory design, and main design phases. In addition, the scope of work also includes project follow-up and supervision during construction.
As part of the service, ABC also handles sustainability management, which includes providing LCA calculations performed in Real-Time LCA.
The project falls under BK2 and KK2, and both areas are certified internally at ABC.
The following specialty contractors are involved in the project: Bravida (ventilation), Søndergaard EL (electrical), Kelvin (HVAC), Mogensen VVS Comfort (plumbing), TM Thyholm Murer (earthwork, sewer, concrete), Lykkebyg (masonry), and Munksgård Tømrer (carpentry).
