Nature of the project
The project involves the construction of a new hall for the client, DSB, adjacent to the existing Kastrup Preparation Center (KAC) workshop. The new hall will be built as an extension of the workshop and will house washing and cleaning facilities for the exterior cleaning of DSB train cars to remove graffiti, impact damage, and similar contaminants.
The building is freestanding and will be constructed as a single-story structure above ground level, with a height of 8 meters. A train track will run through the building, enabling the sequential cleaning of train sets.
Beneath this track, a service pit approximately 3.4 meters deep will also be constructed, allowing mechanics and technicians to stand upright while performing inspection and maintenance tasks on the trains’ undercarriages.
In addition, an attached side building will be constructed to house necessary support functions, including, among other things, a technical room, a storage area, cleaning equipment, and staff facilities.
The structures will be built on a cast-in-place foundation with a pit supported by driven concrete piles, featuring facades made of sandwich concrete panels and hollow-core slab roofs.
In addition to the hall building and the associated side building, the project also includes the construction of a freestanding waste and bicycle shed, and an existing transformer on the project site will be relocated.
The project is being carried out by a closely collaborating project team consisting of general contractor Arkil and railway contractor Swietelsky AG, architect Norrplan, and engineering firms ABC and INFRA.
And this close collaboration did not just emerge at the start of the project—it actually began as early as the bidding phase.
Close Collaboration Even During the Bidding Process
"All parties actively contributed to the final presentation during the bidding phase, and through close collaboration and brainstorming, we delivered a polished and targeted proposal. In the bid evaluation, we also scored highest on precisely those soft values, which carried significant weight in the decision. I have no doubt that the effort the entire bid team put into preparing this presentation was crucial to our favorable evaluation.”
ABC is the design manager for the project and is also responsible for engineering services such as the design of the building’s structure and associated installations, with Spangenberg & Madsen serving as sub-consultants, as well as AMK and ICT management during the design phase.
Installations and track work at ground level are being handled by INFRA.
