Project Description

Fasangården is located in the heart of Frederiksberg Garden, where the house lies well hidden behind a memorial mound and exudes history.

It was a house that once hosted prominent guests. Fasangården was built in 1682 as a residence for the pheasant master, who was employed by the king to breed pheasants. The pheasant farm was subsequently closed in 1785 following the pheasant master’s death, but his widow was allowed to remain and run an inn.

Between 1798 and 1802, Frederiksberg Garden was transformed into a romantic park, and Crown Prince Frederik’s secretary, Peter Carl Jessen, moved in and had the buildings renovated. Later, Fasangården was home to the famous poet Adam Oehlenschläger, and when he no longer used Fasangården as his summer residence, the property was rented out to private individuals from 1851 until today.

Fasangården is worthy of preservation and must be restored, not only because of its architecture but also because of the buildings’ rich history. The renovation project for Fasangården is therefore something special, as the restoration work requires particular attention to contemporary building culture and sustainability. One of the main reasons ABC was selected for the project—in collaboration with Krydsrym Arkitekter, among others—is its expertise in restoration and the requirement that the renovation of Fasangården be carried out with the utmost respect for this beautiful historic building.
