Based at the Frederikssund Marina, the project will create state-of-the-art facilities for rowing, sailing, and the many other user groups at the harbor, while also transforming the harbor into an attractive destination for all city residents and visitors.

The Frederikssund Maritime Center will bring together sailing, rowing, kayaking, sea scouting, and youth activities under one roof. In this way, the maritime center will serve as a hub for activities on the fjord for many user groups.

Boathouses, the main building, workshops, and other maritime facilities have been scaled down and naturally adapted to their surroundings. Toward the landward side, the forest edge of Kalvøen extends into the site, and toward the waterfront, a fan-shaped arrangement of long buildings with gables facing the fjord is integrated.

The project emphasizes opening up the maritime center and the adjacent areas to make them more accessible from the town of Frederikssund and equally accessible to all residents. The new facilities are to be open to all passersby, and there is a desire for shared public spaces to be closely integrated with community association areas.

In addition, Frederikssund Marina, which is primarily used for boat storage, will also be opened up so that the area can be used for recreational activities. The ambition is to create a modern, sustainable harbor; therefore, the harbor must be operated with a focus on minimizing environmental impact on Roskilde Fjord, and the land areas must be used flexibly throughout the year.

This project is fully in line with ABC’s passion and ambition to deliver sustainable, comprehensive solutions that contribute to the positive development of portand urban environments, with a focus on sustainability and quality of life for the benefit of the city’s residents and visitors.

The land areas are intended to be used flexibly throughout the year, which reduces wasted space and increases efficient utilization. The project also focuses on urban spaces along the waterfront, open and multifunctional areas that enhance accessibility and thus social sustainability—allowing more residents to enjoy the area.

By combining environmental considerations (aquatic environment, flexible land areas) with social aspects (an open harbor for all, access for multiple user groups) and physical/architectural quality, the project embodies a holistic approach to sustainability.
