Nature of the Project
The Julemærkefonden House in Roskilde, which opened in the fall of 2024, serves as the daily workplace for the foundation’s 30 employees.
The Julemærkefonden House, spanning 1,000 m², is located at the corner of Baldersvej and Frederiksborgvej in northern Roskilde, an area characterized by several historic villas worthy of preservation.
The villa’s typology is evident throughout both the building’s interior and exterior. The exterior is designed with distinct gables, facade projections, verandas, garden rooms, and “chimneys” that scale down the building so it blends into the surrounding environment.
The building has a total floor area of 1,100 m², distributed across three stories and a basement. The above-ground floor area is 750 m², ensuring that it does not disrupt the scale of the surrounding buildings.
The villa has also served as a source of inspiration for the building’s “home-like” interior design. An atrium serves as the building’s entrance hall, leading to the living rooms (office spaces) and garden rooms (meeting rooms), while sunken courtyards are incorporated into the basement-level spaces.
The main structure is classified as KK3, as the basement was constructed using secant pile walls due to artesian water pressure—that is, the water pressure underground was so high that the water level stood nearly 4 m above ground level.
