Project Description
The Cactus Towers is a high-rise development in Copenhagen featuring youth housing reaching a height of 80 meters.
It consists of two towers and a base building, totaling 25,000 m². The development is situated along a stretch of the railway embankment leading up to Copenhagen Central Station and marks the entrance to Copenhagen, with a striking shift in scale toward the truly tall towers.
The area’s central location and large-scale urban setting are well-suited for student housing, and the students will also contribute to a lively and safe environment at all hours of the day and night.
Right in the heart of the city, the plaza beneath Dybbølsbro will always be bustling with life—whether from people returning from the upcoming IKEA, Fisketorvet, or simply students on their way home.
For student housing, it’s hard to imagine a better location, close to the heart of the city—Vesterbro, the White Meat District, and Islands Brygge. At the same time, it’s easy to get to the region’s educational institutions thanks to the close proximity to the central train station, which makes it easy to reach DTU, KU, or Lund, for example.
In general, the building is being constructed as a precast concrete structure on a thick foundation slab supported by piles. ABC, with Spangenberg & Madsen as a sub-consultant, has conducted a thorough review of the engineering design for the project to determine whether the design is free of errors, meets the requirements of FRI’s Scope of Work for a major project, and whether the project is generally constructible.
In addition, ABC has been asked to serve as the design contractor for two key parts of the project where supplier design services have been put out to bid. One is the excavation pit enclosure, where there is a significant challenge related to all the settlement-sensitive underground utility lines in the area; the other is a facade bracket that connects the floor slabs, the facade, and the distinctive balconies in a constructible and cost-effective manner.
Finally, ABC has provided a number of optimization proposals, for example, regarding the foundation slab and the pile design.
ABC has been hired by Høpfner Projects to review the project, by LM Byg (sheet pile contractor) to design the sheet pile work, and by HB Trapper / HS Hansen to design the facade fittings.
