Nature of the Project

Klosterstræde 6 is an old four-bay half-timbered house dating from 1790. The property has a total floor area of 350 m² spread over five stories plus a basement.

Klosterstræde 6 was built between 1729 and 1732 with four stories facing the street and three stories facing the courtyard. Master mason Joseph Toscanello (before 1709–after 1743) and master carpenter Johan Engelsen (before 1709–after 1729) constructed this property for the shoemaker Gothardt Andreas Germann.

The building was raised to five stories between 1775 and 1788*.

When the property was due for a major renovation, ABC was commissioned to provide structural engineering consulting for the property, which, due to its age, was not in good condition in all areas, placing high demands on the solutions that were designed.

The renovation involved removing load-bearing walls and installing new bathrooms on three floors.

For the project, the building was fully analyzed for stability and structural calculations, including the corresponding construction drawings, including temporary and future structural reinforcements for the removal of half-timbered walls and floor separations during the casting of the new bathrooms.

Due to the building’s structure, the design incorporated wood, steel, and concrete to create optimal solutions based on the existing materials, thereby making the contractor’s work as straightforward as possible.
