Project Description
AG Gruppen is behind part of the new neighborhood in Sydhavnen, Copenhagen, where a total of 400 sustainable homes, a municipal daycare center, and a new nursing home are being built.
The neighborhood is being built to the highest standards of sustainability. The new nursing home will consist of 7 stories plus a basement, and the top 6 stories will be cantilevered out over Sydhavnsgade.
The ground floor will be used for public and semi-public functions, as well as service facilities for residents. The remaining floors will be used for residential units and common areas.
The facade facing Sydhavnsgade will feature a distinctive design with so-called “hanging gardens,” which will provide an attractive outdoor space for residents to enjoy. These additional outdoor spaces are connected to the common areas and serve as a perimeter zone for each floor where residents can gather.
The design incorporates wide projections around common areas, cutouts to allow light to filter in, green facade strategies, and planters that separate semi-private perimeter zones and mark a boundary relative to a walkway.
ABC shares the consulting work with Vandkunsten and handles all engineering disciplines (except fire safety) with FLUX AD serving as a sub-consultant for mechanical and electrical systems. ABC has been involved from the very early stages and has helped shape the project’s constructability and functionality.
The hanging gardens require special reinforcements using in-situ concrete, which have been incorporated into the architect’s building geometry so that the extensive social functionality requirements become an integral part of the project.
