Nature of the Project

The project involves the construction of a new building at Valby Sports Park for the City of Copenhagen’s Culture and Leisure Administration as part of the strategic PLUS partnership.

The building houses Valby Boldklub’s new clubhouse, providing the club with a modern and well-designed clubhouse facility. The clubhouse features changing rooms for both men and women, restroom and shower facilities, meeting rooms, storage and utility rooms, and more.

The clubhouse is intended to serve as the new shared facilities and gathering place that will support the social aspect of club life for Valby Boldklub. Therefore, the new clubhouse also includes a large, spacious common room for larger gatherings and activities, complete with kitchen facilities.

The approximately 350 m² clubhouse is a single-story structure with a mezzanine level in the large common room, featuring a construction of wood, concrete, and steel. A new concrete ground slab and foundations were poured for the project. The building’s load-bearing and stabilizing system is designed as an internally visible steel frame structure and forms the backbone of the building’s lightweight cladding.

The height from ground level to the highest roof ridge is 6.7 m, and the roof has a slope of 20° on one side and 45° on the other, giving the building its characteristic, respectively, gentle and dramatic roof slopes. The roof structure is designed as a rigid frame, and the joints in the rafter system are designed as moment-resistant joints. The building’s interior partitions are constructed of aerated concrete walls.

Only exposed utilities have been used in the building, which contributes to its raw and robust appearance, designed to invite the building’s users to make active and lively use of their surroundings. At the same time, the exposed systems also help minimize installation costs—both during construction and afterward—as well as reduce operating costs in the long term.
