Project Description
Frederiks Plads is a new, green square in the heart of Aarhus, on the site of the former DSB workshops. The name is inspired by the vibrant Frederiksbjerg neighborhood, to which this urban square will now bring even more life.
The contractor, Raundahl & Moesby, will build the nearly 100-meter-tall, 29-story building, Frederiks Hus, which will house a total of 216 residential units and constitutes the final phase of Frederiks Plads in the heart of Aarhus.
This is the final construction site, and the completion of the high-rise building will mark the culmination of more than 10 years of work to create the entire Frederiks Plads. This final phase, which combines residential and commercial spaces, will complete the project, which is a new and attractive addition to Aarhus’ many squares.
The future high-rise will consist of residential units from the 1st to the 18th floor, while commercial spaces will be located on the ground floor and from the 19th to the 29th floor. Hotel rooms will be established on the 20th and 21st floors. The project includes 216 residential units, comprising 200 private residences and 16 public housing units. In addition, there will be 8 commercial units.
In total, the development will cover 27,400 m², of which 17,000–18,000 m² will be residential and 9,000–10,000 m² will be commercial space.
Sustainability
The project is being submitted for DGNB Gold certification and is based on a holistic approach that incorporates factors such as social sustainability, reduction of CO2 emissions, circular construction, and biodiversity.
A central focus for Frederiks Hus and the entire Frederiks Plads is the creation of a green urban space—with trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaping—that offers everyone a green oasis in the heart of the city.
The large royal oak on the square complements the landscaping beautifully, both at street level, on the balconies, and on the many rooftop terraces.
