Project Description

The Intergenerational Community Center, currently under development in Hillerød’s new neighborhood, Favrholm, aims to build bridges and foster relationships between generations by bringing a nursing home, a senior living community, and a daycare center together in a beautiful setting.

Hillerød Municipality and FSB have entered into an agreement to construct the project, and the project team is rounded out by Tegnestuen Vandkunsten as the lead consultant, with ABC Consulting Engineers providing all engineering services.

The project involves the construction of four buildings, which will total approximately 13,500 m². Two of these buildings will house a public nursing home with 112 beds; one building will be a residential community with approximately 25 senior housing units; and the final building will be a municipally operated daycare center with space for up to 150 children. In addition, there will be a number of shared facilities, such as a library, café, kiosk, workshops, and meeting rooms.

A raised plinth will be constructed between the buildings, providing easy access between them while also blending seamlessly with the surrounding outdoor areas and nature. The idea is that these welcoming spaces for community, both indoors and outdoors, will help foster and strengthen relationships among the area’s users, regardless of their life circumstances or age groups.

Quote

“There’s something special about working on a project that bridges the gap between generations. That’s what Generationernes Kvarter does, and it’s fantastic to see that we’re creating multifunctional buildings where people of all generations will live and go about their lives together. And since it’s a wood-frame construction, it truly completes this fantastic project.”

Sustainability

Building across generations also requires sustainable construction, because we have a responsibility to ensure that even the youngest generations have a healthy world to grow up in.

The project is therefore being constructed using wooden elements designed to harmonize with the surrounding natural environment.

During construction, the focus will be on preserving as much of the natural site as possible to meet the client’s desire to promote the sustainable aspects of the project, including by implementing specific and measurable objectives that will guide the project from start to finish.
