Nature of the Project
At Hillerødgade 30—on the border between Nørrebro and Frederiksberg—in a neighborhood dominated by traffic, small-scale industry, and a suburban feel, stands a historic office building worthy of preservation that stands out as a beacon of quality.
A beautifully designed, classic industrial building that is ideally suited to house architects, designers, or others in the creative professions. The building dates back to the 1920s and features all the charming characteristics associated with an industrial building from that era.
C.W. Obel Ejendomme wishes to expand the top floor to allow for more light and a more open sense of space, while preserving all of the building’s historical features.
Because the building is worthy of preservation and to respect the original roof structure, we have chosen to retain the truss system as much as possible. Through calculations, we have been able to demonstrate that one strut for every third rafter is generally sufficient for the roof’s stability, and that this solution allows forces to be directed to where the load has always been. However, some of the purlins will be removed entirely, and in these cases, it will be necessary to install steel reinforcements in the structure to maintain the roof’s stability.
At the large dormer facing the courtyard, it is necessary to support the roof with a glulam beam to transfer the forces down into the concrete slab.
