At our big joint quarterly meeting last week, there was a celebratory item on the agenda before we got down to business

There, we celebrated the fact that Alaa Taha, Head of Structural Engineering in ABC’s New Construction department, has achieved a truly impressive professional milestone. He has been a KK2-certified structural engineer since 2019 but has recently achieved certification for KK3/4. This makes him the sixth certified structural engineer at ABC to attain the highest structural engineering class.

Alaa has been with ABC for nearly 5 years, and during that time he has not only distinguished himself as a friendly and approachable colleague who fosters good social and professional collaboration, but also as an exceptionally skilled structural engineer. He has been responsible for structural design on some of the largest and most important projects during his time at ABC.

Among other things, he has excelled in his structural engineering work on Frederikssund Municipality’s urban development project, Vinge, which adds 198 new family homes in the form of multi-story buildings, townhouses, and low-rise apartment buildings, the Sjælsø Care Center, an expansion of the care center featuring 148 new care units on the edge of Sjælsø, Generationernes Kvartershus, a new, compact development comprising a nursing home, a senior living community, and a daycare center in Hillerød’s new neighborhood, Favrholm, designed to bridge the gap between generations, as well as Hvidovrevejs Butikstorv, a major revitalization of the area near Hvidovre Station involving the renovation and new construction of housing, commercial spaces, parking facilities, and more.

He has now taken the next major step in his career and has been certified for the highest construction class under the Danish Building Regulations. This enables Alaa to provide certification services for construction projects of all sizes and complexities throughout the country. And it is precisely this kind of professional development that ABC strongly encourages and prioritizes for our employees—whether it involves certification or other forms of professional growth.

Expertise and professional standing have been an essential part of our strategic objectives from day one

This is also why ABC was one of the engineering firms that seriously committed to the certification program when it was introduced with BR18, which is why we are now tied for first place among the largest certification firms in the country, with 17 certified structural engineers—6 of whom are certified to KK3/4 levels, one of whom is also a third-party inspector.

We believe in the value of having certified consultants not just brought in toward the end of a project, but rather as an active resource as early as possible. By incorporating certification into the early phases of the project, we can preempt many of the technical challenges that would otherwise stand in the way of final reports, occupancy permits, and the like, thereby avoiding major bottlenecks in the certification process as much as possible.

That’s why we’re both delighted and proud that Alaa has achieved this impressive career milestone! Way to go, Alaa—congratulations!
