At the Forefront of the Future

Globally, the construction sector accounts for about 40% of total climate impacts. Environmental regulations are becoming increasingly stringent, particularly in the construction industry.

Our sustainability specialists are always up to date on current limits and legal requirements, and can provide both consulting and management of sustainability efforts on projects, so you’re always informed about the latest requirements for your construction project and how the project can best comply with them.

At ABC, we actively work to reduce the environmental impacts associated with construction, where load-bearing structures in particular have a significant impact on emissions. That is why we have consultants who specialize in the reuse of existing building stock and who understand the unique technical challenges of transforming and renovating buildings.

At the same time, our consultants are also experts in energy and indoor climate, enabling them to both optimize buildings for end-users’ daily routines and incorporate environmental considerations into operations and maintenance.

  • Provides advice and information on the latest changes to building codes and other regulations
  • Ensure the project is feasible within applicable limits and regulatory requirements
  • Identifies and selects building materials early on, thereby optimizing the structures
  • Ensures a healthy indoor environment for the building’s occupants and optimizes energy consumption during operation

SERVICES

  • LCA and Climate Requirements
  • Energy and Indoor Climate
  • Circular Economy
  • EU Taxonomy and UN Goals
  • Certification

Our sustainability specialists are always at the forefront of the latest climate requirements for the construction industry and can advise you on the implications of different material choices in terms of life cycle assessments (LCA) and life-cycle costs (LCC), as well as propose solutions and optimization strategies for your project to ensure you achieve the most sustainable construction possible.

This ensures you’re always up to date on the latest threshold values and environmental requirements, so you can be confident that your building complies with applicable regulations.

We handle all services related to both energy—including energy frameworks and assessments—and indoor climate, including daylight and indoor climate calculations.

This ensures that both the building’s operation and daily workflow are incorporated as early as possible in the project, which creates a better user experience for end-users and optimizes the building’s energy consumption once operations begin.

At ABC, we have extensive experience with the circular economy in construction and can therefore advise on the reuse of materials in construction, which helps both increase resource efficiency and reduce the amount of construction waste.

This is not only beneficial for the environment—since fewer materials need to be produced than if everything were built from scratch—but can also be a sound business solution if implemented correctly.

Our sustainability specialists are not only experts in national sustainability requirements and targets but also have extensive experience with international policy goals and agreements in the environmental field.

That’s why we provide consulting and guidance on the EU Taxonomy for Environmental Sustainability, and can also help ensure that your construction project aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, which run through 2030.

Our sustainability specialists have extensive experience with the relevant certification schemes and can therefore advise on and handle documentation, audits, and applications for many of the relevant sustainability schemes and certifications, including:

  • DGNB
  • Swan Label
  • The Voluntary Sustainability Class
  • LEED
  • BREEAM

FOCUS AREAS

More sustainable construction from the earliest drawings to handover

"Globally, the construction industry accounts for a large portion of total climate impacts. We in the industry have a major responsibility to reduce this. That is why we are taking the lead and working to make construction projects sustainable from the early stages all the way through to handover and project follow-up. We provide both consulting and management of sustainability efforts on the projects.”

Lone Hedegaard, Department Head, Sustainability, Indoor Climate, and Energy-Efficient Construction, and Ph.D.

In collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute, we have developed a guide and case study folder for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing

Reusing a building’s load-bearing structures results in a lower environmental impact during construction, economic benefits, and less waste than demolishing and rebuilding. However, there are many technical challenges involved in repurposing existing buildings, especially if the physical structure is no longer up to date and must therefore be transformed for a new use.

At ABC Consulting Engineers, we specialize in renovating existing buildings or transforming them for new purposes.

We would like to share this knowledge, and that is why, in collaboration with the Danish Technological Institute, we have prepared a guide and a case study booklet for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing on how to support the reuse of load-bearing structures during renovation and remodeling, as well as a number of case studies from which you can draw inspiration. You can read about them below.
